Know Your Options
Sedation Dentistry
If you tend to feel nervous or uncomfortable at the dentist, we get it. Many people suffer from dental anxiety, but it doesn’t have to stop you from getting the oral care you need. At Flourish Dental Boutique we offer:
- Nitrous oxide sedation
- IV sedation
- General anesthesia
With these sedation dentistry options, Dr. Toni Engram will ensure that you feel safe and comfortable throughout your entire appointment. Give us a call to schedule a sedation consultation to learn more about your options and find out which sedation method may be right for you.
Minimal Sedation
Nitrous Oxide
This type of sedation uses a nose mask to deliver a combination of nitrous oxide (laughing gas) and oxygen to your lungs. As you breathe in, you will feel more relaxed and comfortable, and even a bit “floaty.”
Nitrous oxide lets you relax while staying conscious, and helps prevent pain and discomfort during your procedure. It also wears off after only about 5 minutes and has minimal side effects, which means you can drive yourself home or even go back to work after treatment. This is not possible with other methods of sedation.
Deep Sedation
IV Sedation/General Anesthesia
IV sedation uses a powerful sedative that is injected directly into your bloodstream intravenously. You’ll be asleep throughout your procedure, and will likely remember little of it, but you will technically remain conscious.
General anesthesia is a bit different. It uses a powerful sedative to render you completely unconscious, so you will need a machine to help you breathe. General anesthesia is typically reserved for only the most serious and difficult procedures.

Benefits of Sedation Dentistry
The biggest benefit of sedation dentistry is that it keeps you feeling safe and comfortable throughout your entire appointment. Even if you have dental anxiety, it’s possible to get the care you need without stress.
Sedation dentistry also makes it easier for you to get through a long dental procedure without moving or getting sore. It can circumvent issues like fear of needles or an overly-strong gag reflex.
Finally, sedation ensures you don’t feel any pain or discomfort during your procedure. When combined with numbing, you can rest easy and get the care you need without any fear of pain.
Understanding the procedure
Is Sedation Dentistry Safe?
Sedation dentistry is completely safe. As always, we will take into consideration your medical history and potential reactions to medication to ensure your safety during your appointment. Serious reactions or complications during sedation dentistry are incredibly rare.

Am I a Good Candidate For Sedation Dentistry?
To determine this, we will need to discuss your medical history, any potential history of drug abuse, and allergies to medications, among other things. However, as long as you are healthy, you are likely a good candidate for sedation dentistry at our office.
