Soft Tissue Laser therapy
Understanding the basics
Soft tissue laser therapy uses a specialized laser “drill” with a fiber-optic tip. Upon contact with soft oral tissue like gum tissue, the powerful laser transmitted through the tip of the tool vaporizes the tissue.
The high heat immediately cauterizes (seals) the nerve ending and blood vessels behind the laser, which almost completely eliminates pain and bleeding. Laser tools are also more precise than traditional dental tools, which allows for the removal of less tissue during soft tissue treatments.
We use soft tissue laser therapy for a variety of purposes. It can be used in periodontal care to help clean and disinfect the gums, and to remove lesions for biopsies, or to remove canker sores and other growths from within the mouth. It can also be used to prepare for surgical treatments like dental implants.
fotona LightWalker
for hard tissue treatments
Hard tissue lasers like the Fotona LightWalker are not intended for use on soft tissues as a replacement for a scalpel or other dental tools. Instead, they replace traditional dental drills, which are used to remove hard tissues like enamel and dentin from the teeth.
The Fotona LightWalker allows Dr. Engram to offer drill-less dentistry. It can be used instead of a drill for treatments like filling a cavity. There are no vibrations with this tool, or high-pitched whirring or other sensations that often cause anxiety among dental patients.
In addition, the precision of the Fotona LightWalker laser allows Dr. Engram to treat your tooth while removing less of the natural enamel and tooth material. This minimally-invasive approach ensures that you keep as much of the tooth as possible, and strengthens restorations like crowns, fillings, and more.
Laser
Cold sore treatments
Beyond soft tissue therapy and hard tissue lasers, we also offer laser cold sore treatments for use on tough cold sores that form on the lips and nearby areas of the mouth. Cold sores can cause a lot of pain and discomfort, and make you feel self-conscious about your appearance.
Laser cold sore treatment is a non-invasive way to destroy cold sores, reduce their appearance, and prevent them from forming in the future. In this process, a hand-held laser is used to deliver energy into the cold sore, killing the virus inside the cold sore.
This arrests the progression of the cold sore after treatment, so it will quickly shrink and become less obvious. After treatment, the cold sore is less likely to reoccur in the same area, and if it does, it will typically be smaller, and can be treated with laser therapy again.
This treatment is completely pain-free and non-invasive, and can provide you with relief from the pain, discomfort, and unsightly appearance of cold sores, so contact Flourish Dental Boutique now to learn more and get the care you need if you suffer from cold sores.
